
Joana Osman was born in Munich in 1982, the daughter of a Palestinian father and a German mother. She began writing while studying American Studies, Theater Studies and History of Art. In 2012 she co-founded the Middle Eastern peace movement The Peace Factory (www.thepeacefactory.org), which uses social networks to connect people in conflict regions. For The Peace Factory Joana Osman gives lectures and peace workshops several times a year in the Middle East and around the world, including at the UN in New York City, the House of Lords, London and at various universities, where she promotes friendships between people in conflict regions. These experiences are reflected in her debut “Am Boden des Himmels”, for which she was awarded the City of Wetzlar’s Phantastik prize in 2020. “Wo die Geister tanzen”, her second book, was published by C. Bertelsmann in August 2023. Joana Osman was honoured with the Bavarian Art Award in 2024. “Frieden. Eine reale Utopie” will be published by Penguin at the end of September 2025 and ‘Wenn wir vom Fliegen träumen’ in April 2026. Osman lives and works as an author, writing consultant and integration coach in Gernlinden near Munich.
