Biography

Verena Stössinger, born in Lucerne in 1951, studied Northern Languages, German Studies and Sociology in Basel and Aarhus/dk after a few years of theatre in Berlin. She worked at the University of Basel, taught there occasionally in new Scandinavian literature, is a cultural journalist, editor and initiator of “Lektorat Literatur”. In 1980 she made her debut with “Ninakind”; her most recent publications are the novel “Bäume fliehen nicht” (2012), (russ. Translation Pictorica Publishing Kaliningrad, 2014; Romanian Translation, Editiones Fides, 2016; Czech Translation, Kartuziánské nakladatelství, spring. 2019 ); “Spielzeit Nummer zwölf” (2004), the anthology “Von Inseln weiß ich … Geschichten von den Färöern” (published together with Anna-Katharina Dömling, 2006) and the children’s book “Die Reise zu den Kugelinseln” (2010). “Die Gespenstersammlerin” was published in spring 2017 by edition bücherlese, a Faroese translation is published in 2023. “Hier wird getanzt!”, stories by William Heinesen, edited and epilogue by Verena Stössinger was published in 2018 by Guggolz Verlag, Berlin.
