Biography
Hüseyin Edemir was born in Ardahan/Turkey in 1981. He went to boarding school at Çorum Atatürk High School and graduated there. In 1998, he began to study philosophy at Istanbul University, but was unable to continue due to a police investigation against him. He was only able to complete his bachelor’s degree at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, where he studied history. He then began to study at the German-Turkish Master’s degree programme, which was set up by Humboldt University in Berlin and the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. In 2010, he was arrested during his studies and spent almost two years in prisons in Tekirdağ and Edirne. Edemir was released from prison in 2011, but in 2012 a decision was made to imprison him again. He fled Turkey and came to Switzerland via Greece. In 2021, he completed his master’s degree. The author lives in Zurich and has published three books in Turkish.
C-84 was published in Turkish in 2015 and is his first novel. His second novel “Aşağıdan” was published in 2016. After fleeing to Switzerland in 2018, «Yeşil Bir Ülke» a collection of short stories was published. In Turkey, Hüseyin Edemir also wrote reviews, short stories and commentaries on social issues for various newspapers and literary magazines. Hüseyin Edemir’s story «Hasan and Hüseyin» has been published in German in the «Papierlosenzeitung».
